New Work in my New Studio

Ok, I feel like a kid in a candy store. My studio is really large and I’m a tad overwhelmed with the possibilities. There are so many directions I want to explore and it’s tough to know where to start. I began a weekly art journal to write down these thoughts and impulses and maybe¬†explore some later.

This painting is a 36″ x 48″ canvas.¬†I’m so saddened when I drive the highways and see the tragedy of road deaths. Deer, elk, raccoon, fox, coyote. It’s overwhelming to me and I wonder sometimes if we’ll ever see these tragedies as important as the humans who are killed in traffic accidents. We set up roadside memorials to them. What would a memorial for a deer look like?

This is the first in a series of abstractions called “Road Kill” based on my emotional connection to the tragedies on our highways.
